Colorado Springs Lifestyle Newborn Session at Home

There’s something so special about newborn sessions at home, no rush, no pressure, just your family unfolding in real time. For Kaylee and Chris, inviting me into their Colorado Springs home to document those early days with baby Theodore felt like such an honor. With beautiful light, woodland nursery details, and their pup weaving through the frames, every moment felt soft and grounded.

From cozy snuggles to heartfelt grandparent connections, this session was full of quiet beauty. Come take a peek inside their space and experience the love, the light, and a sweet little tradition passed down from Chris’s heritage that made me smile for days.

Sacred is being invited into someone’s home during those early newborn days, the ones that feel suspended in time, where everything slows down and sharpens all at once. This in-home newborn session in Colorado Springs with Kaylee, Chris, and their baby boy, Theodore, was filled with that exact kind of quiet magic. The kind that wraps around you like a favorite blanket and lingers long after you’ve gone.

I first met Kaylee and Chris on a winter day last year, photographing their extended family in the stillness of Strawberry Fields down in Cheyenne Canyon. It was the kind of session that felt like a warm pocket of time, sweet, connected, full of laughter and love. At the very end, almost like a whisper, they shared that Kaylee was pregnant. A few months later, they reached back out… and this time, I got to step into their home and into this next season of their story.

A Nursery Full of Light and Love

The moment I walked in, I could feel how deeply thought-out every detail was. Their nursery was full of earthy tones, soft textures, and woodland animals lovingly placed here and there like little guardians of the space. The light poured through the windows in just the right way, and while I always take time to scout for light and pockets of shadow when I arrive, their room held everything we needed: warmth, calm, and space to simply be.

Theodore was still tiny, folded into himself, sleepy and soft and new. We took our time, moving slowly, pausing often, letting the session unfold gently. When I first got there, I noticed a small patch on his forehead and quietly prepared myself to edit around it later. Ha, jokes on me! It wasn’t dry skin at all, it was a tiny, damp square of paper towel, placed there by Chris’s mom and dad, a sweet tradition from his heritage meant to ease newborn hiccups. I laughed, softened by the intimacy of a remedy passed down through generations, and how these little pieces of who we are show up in the most tender ways.

Generations, Chairs, and the Heart of Home

Chris’s parents were visiting and joined us for the session, another layer of love folded into the morning. His mother gently asked if I could take a photo of Grandpa holding Theodore in the nursery chair, and I’m so glad she did. There’s something about that image, this strong, quiet man holding his grandson in the soft light, that holds a kind of reverence I can’t quite put into words.

And of course, their dog made sure to be part of it all. She padded gently through the room, curled up close, and stole her own sweet moments in the frame. Sessions like this remind me again and again: family looks like so many things. A new baby. A pup who’s been there through it all. Parents who show up to witness the next chapter. A home that holds it all together.

Why I’ll Always Love In-Home Newborn Sessions

These at-home newborn sessions are some of my favorite to photograph, because they’re so honest. You don’t have to pack up the baby, or worry about forgetting something, or rush to get anywhere on time. You just get to be where you are, with the people you love most, while I move quietly through the space and make sure you remember what it felt like to be here.

To Kaylee and Chris, thank you for letting me witness this part of your story. It was soft and true and full of presence. And that will always be enough.

In-Home Newborn Session in the Colorado Mountains

This cozy in-home newborn session in the Colorado mountains was the kind of slow, sacred magic that fills your chest and stays with you. I’ve photographed Laura and David through their journey into parenthood—from their maternity session, to Liv’s birth, to a handful of sweet family milestones since then—and this session welcoming baby Dante felt like coming home.

It was everything I love about lifestyle newborn photography: connection, presence, and a whole lot of love. Liv played DJ while Dante snuggled peacefully nearby. There were snacks, pet cuddles, and the kind of laughter that only happens when you’re completely at ease. This Colorado in-home session reminded me that newborn photography is about more than documenting a new baby—it’s about honoring a growing family in all its tender, wild beauty.

A Story Years in the Making

There’s something so sacred about being invited back. About being trusted to witness a family not just once, but over and over again as their story unfolds.

That’s what this lifestyle newborn session in the Colorado mountains felt like with Laura and David—like being welcomed back by dear friends. I’ve walked with them through their first pregnancy, the birth of their daughter Liv, and now, the arrival of baby Dante. And every time, I leave feeling full to the brim with gratitude.

A Cozy, Laid-Back Mountain Morning

Their home, tucked in the piney quiet of the mountains near Pine, Colorado, was warm and peaceful when I arrived. The sun spilled gently through the windows, Liv was upstairs showing me her favorite little DJ piano (and yes, I absolutely got a live concert), and baby Dante was snuggled nearby like a secret waiting to be discovered.

And this is what I love about in-home newborn photography—it’s unhurried. It’s intimate. It’s filled with the kind of quiet beauty you can’t stage. David was still getting ready, Laura was upstairs putting the finishing touches on, and I was already in the middle of documenting what makes this season so special: the in-between moments.

Making Space for Siblings to Shine

At one point, I slipped a tiny 3D-printed axolotl into Liv’s hand—a little gift I brought for her. Because when a new baby arrives, older siblings deserve to feel celebrated, too. Her whole face lit up. It’s a small thing, but those moments of connection—of making kids feel seen—mean everything to me.

Real Life, Real Grace

And yep... if you’ve been following my recent behind-the-scenes updates, this was the session where my dairy sensitivity reared its ugly head. But even that, as awkward as it could’ve been, was met with grace and understanding. These people are just good humans, and I feel lucky every time I walk through their front door.

Dante, by the way, is a little miracle. He had to be on oxygen for a few weeks due to Colorado’s high elevation and thinner air—so we waited a bit longer than usual to do his newborn session. But that just meant he was extra alert, full of sweet stretches and sleepy expressions that made the whole day feel even more magical.

Why Lifestyle Newborn Photography Matters

Whether you’re in Denver, Colorado Springs, or tucked away in one of the many mountain towns that make this state feel like a storybook, lifestyle newborn photography offers something that studio sessions just can’t replicate: home. Your pace. Your people. Your pets, even.

This Colorado in-home newborn session was a soft reminder that photography doesn’t have to be posed or perfect. It just needs to be real.

And this? This was real love.
