Outdoor Family Photography in Colorado Springs

A Slow, Connected Session for Vacationing Families

If you’re planning a trip to Colorado Springs with your people, this is your reminder that a slow, grounded photography session can be one of the most meaningful ways to honor it. When Victoria and Andrew reached out to let me know they were coming back to Colorado, with their one-year-old son, Noah, I was immediately in. Years ago, I photographed their elopement at Garden of the Gods. Just the two of them, wild and in love. This time, we met at Cheyenne Mountain State Park, with Noah toddling between them, curls bouncing, stillness turning to laughter by the end.

Why I Love This Spot for Traveling Families

Cheyenne Mountain State Park sits tucked against the foothills on the southwest side of town. It’s one of my favorite places for family sessions, especially for those visiting from out of state. We can start earlier here thanks to the way the light falls against the mountain ridge, and the trails are mellow, which means no hiking uphill in dress shoes or trying to coax toddlers into carriers.

It’s beautiful, accessible, and quiet. And when you’re on vacation, juggling nap schedules and unfamiliar routines, that kind of ease really matters.

The Way Connection Builds When You Let It

When we met in the parking lot, Noah was quiet and unsure. I gave him space. No rush, no pressure, just letting him take it all in while he stayed tucked close to his parents. Andrew gently brushed Noah’s curls from his face. Victoria scooped him up and swayed. These small moments, subtle, sacred, are what I live for.

And by the end? Full-belly giggles. That kind of soft unfolding doesn’t happen on command. It comes when kids feel safe enough to open up. That’s why I don’t believe in forcing smiles, I believe in holding space.

From Elopement to Parenthood

Getting to photograph this family again felt like standing in a circle that had gently expanded. From elopement to parenthood, from just the two of them to a trio, the love they carry hasn’t changed—it’s just grown wider.

Watching Noah move between them, seeing how they meet him with calm and curiosity, reminded me how deeply powerful these everyday moments are. The way you hold each other matters. The way your child lights up when you whisper something only they understand, that’s the magic I want to preserve for you.

Making Photos Part of the Journey (Not a Disruption)

Family photos on vacation don’t have to feel chaotic. I know how tricky it is to plan anything when you're out of your usual rhythm, bedtimes get weird, snacks are off, naps don’t happen. My job is to make the session feel like an exhale. A pause in the noise. A gentle remembering of what matters most.

If you’re planning a trip to Colorado Springs and want to mark this season with something that feels real and rooted, I’d love to help you do that.

While You're Exploring the Springs…

If you're traveling with littles, here are a few nearby spots families love (and that pair beautifully with a photo session at Cheyenne Mountain State Park):

Want to Book While You’re Here?

If you're traveling through Colorado Springs and want to create space for your family to be seen, really seen, in this season of your life, I’d be honored to meet you there. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to a place that feels like home, we’ll create something that reflects who you are and how you love.
