Nostalgic Family Session in Colorado Springs Cul-de-Sac

Nostalgic Family Photos at Their Future Home

Some sessions feel like a snapshot in time, and some feel like a bookmark in a bigger story. This one was both. Laura and Dustin are in the process of building their forever home in Colorado Springs, and before the first foundation was even poured, Laura had the idea to create a session here. To mark this space. To hold it close before the noise and dust and construction. Before it becomes something finished and polished, it gets to be this: wild, open, full of potential.

We’ve worked together a few times now, and it’s always a joy. Laura splits her time between here and Oregon, where she owns Luxus Aesthetics in Happy Valley (she has an office in Colorado Springs too). She’s an expert in skincare and beauty, Botox, fillers, Sculptra, and more, and it shows. Every time I see her, she’s put together in a way that feels effortlessly elegant. But more than that, she brings heart. She shows up with her kids in such an intentional, grounded way, and it sets the tone for everything.

Reschedules, Ridgelines, and Real Life

The session itself wasn’t without its hiccups, weather delays, calendar shifts, and a hilarious scouting adventure on my end. When Laura told me you could see the mountains from the ridge behind the property, I decided to check it out myself. Let’s just say… I bushwhacked my way through cactus and yuccas, climbed up this intense slope, and when I got to the top, it opened into someone else’s backyard, complete with a giant dumpster. (So no, we didn’t shoot there.)

Instead, we stayed grounded on the lot itself, which ended up being just right. Nestled at the end of a cul-de-sac, the space felt quiet and safe, a little pocket of calm in the middle of a neighborhood coming to life. And there’s something symbolic about that too, the idea of choosing the unbuilt, the imperfect, the becoming. That’s what this session was about.

Celebrating the Love That Already Lives Here

From the start, Laura had a vision. The soft blush tones she chose aren’t typically my go-to palette, but she just gets it, her styling is always spot-on, and she makes colors sing in a way that feels timeless. The kids were, as always, incredibly sweet with one another, gentle, affectionate, curious. Watching them interact feels like watching real love in motion. And the way they light up around their mom? Pure gold.

There were some harder moments, too, parenting always brings those. But the heart of this session wasn’t about perfection. It was about presence. About saying, “This is us, right now. This is where we begin the next chapter.” And to me, that’s the kind of storytelling that matters most.

These images feel like a quiet little time capsule, something to look back on once the walls go up, the furniture is in, and the everyday rhythm of life begins in their new space. They'll remember the dirt under their feet, the way the sun dipped low behind the ridge, and how it felt to stand together in the middle of a dream taking root.
