A Rainy Garden of the Gods Elopement in Colorado Springs
When Megan reached out asking me to photograph her elopement to Dylan at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, I could feel the excitement immediately. I could also feel how badly she wanted this. After everything they had been through, Megan was ready to finally marry the man she loves so deeply.
Planning their ceremony had not been easy. They faced hurdle after hurdle. Plans in Hawaii fell apart. Plans in the states fell apart too. None of it felt fair. After so much waiting and disappointment, they needed this day to finally happen.
Megan and Dylan traveled to Colorado from Missouri, and even getting here was not simple. Extra TSA screening made the trip stressful. Rental car rules added another layer of frustration. And then there was the rain. Steady, relentless rain that showed up and stayed for their entire elopement.
And still, they went forward.
Choosing the Day Anyway
It rained through the whole ceremony at Garden of the Gods, but Megan and Dylan did not let that stop them. They wanted to be married. That mattered more than dry clothes or perfect weather. They chose to go with the flow, and I was there to document it all.
Shooting in the rain is not ideal, especially when a couple is only in town for a short time and there is no room to reschedule. But sometimes you work with what you are given. There is a saying that rain on your wedding day brings good luck, and that day felt especially true.
Lightning at the Mountains
As Megan and Dylan exchanged rings, lightning struck near the mountains and we caught it in frame. That moment was rare and powerful and completely unplanned. It felt electric. One of those once in a lifetime moments that cannot be recreated.
Meaningful Details and Quiet Moments
Their elopement was filled with intention. Megan carried tokens from her grandparents, a brooch and a handkerchief, allowing loved ones to be present in spirit during an intimate ceremony. They read letters they had written to one another while sitting together in the rain. Quiet. Vulnerable. Completely genuine.
These are the kinds of elopements I am proud to photograph. Days that do not follow a perfect script, but feel deeply honest. Days where love moves forward anyway.
Thank you, Megan and Dylan, for trusting me with your story. I wish you a lifetime filled with happiness, kindness, grace, and deep love for one another.
