An Adventure Engagement Session in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Shelby and her handsome rancher fiancé, Brady, were put in touch with me through Breanna Rein of Rein Photography, a Nebraska-based family photographer whose work I admire. Shelby was searching for a wedding photographer, and from the very beginning, our styles and energy felt aligned, one of those easy yeses.

We originally planned their engagement session for Rocky Mountain National Park, dreaming up a day that felt expansive and intentional. But like so many plans that year, COVID shifted things, and the park closure asked us to pause and reimagine.

So we did.

Instead, we met in Cheyenne, at a location that completely surprised me. Wide open. Quiet. Wild in the best way. One of those places that feels untouched and generous all at once.

My daughter and I drove up early the morning of their session to scout, wandering and hiking for miles, over eight that day, following light, texture, and instinct. Every aching muscle afterward was worth it.

Shelby and Brady met me with that same openness. We hiked together through marshland and along trails, wandered barefoot by the water, and let the day unfold naturally. The evening ended wrapped in the most beautiful, sun-soaked Wyoming sunset, light pouring over everything, warming my bones and my spirit.

Adventure engagement sessions like this are why I love what I do. They create space for memories that feel lived-in, not posed. Moments that linger long after the day ends.

This session was just the beginning of Shelby and Brady’s story with me, one that continued into their wedding day, where that same grounded, joyful connection carried through every moment.

These are some of my favorite images from their adventure engagement session in Cheyenne, Wyoming, a day rerouted, reimagined, and made even better because of it.
