King Gizzard Field of Vision Elopement in Buena Vista

When Jess and Brooks reached out about eloping at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s first Field of Vision festival in Buena Vista, I knew it was going to be unforgettable. Held at Meadow Creek, this multi-day gathering of music, art, and community set the stage for something more intimate: a sunrise-lit elopement woven into the heart of the festival. With Jason Galea’s trippy TV art installations flickering nearby, friends standing witness, and the Arkansas River rushing just beyond, their love story became part of the festival itself, grounded, wild, and deeply Colorado.

From Reddit to Meadow Creek

This story started in the most unexpected way: on the King Gizzard Reddit thread. Jess and Brooks had posted about their plans, and I knew instantly I wanted to be there to capture it. A few messages later, we connected. They car camped at Meadow Creek with the rest of the festival crowd, and we met the day before their vows. The timing, the place, the energy, it all lined up like it was meant to be.

A Ceremony Lit by Morning Light

We planned for a morning elopement, timed for when the sun was still low in the sky. The light stretched soft and golden across Meadow Creek, wrapping the day in warmth without demanding the exhaustion of a true dawn wake-up call.

The area where Jess and Brooks exchanged vows was unlike anywhere else, a stretch of road lined with art and gathering spaces, each corner carrying its own spirit. We started at the altar space, surrounded by couches and seating that felt almost like it had been designed for them. With their closest friends holding space, they spoke their vows in a ceremony that was intimate, heartfelt, and perfectly theirs.

Walking the Road, Weaving the Story

From there, we simply walked the road together, letting each space add its own layer to the story. At the creek, Jess and Brooks stepped into the water, holding each other as the current lapped at their feet. At the bridge, we paused for quiet portraits framed by the towering trees and festival grounds.

One of the most unforgettable backdrops of all: an art installation of stacked televisions created by Jason Galea, the visual mastermind behind so much of King Gizzard’s artwork and stage design. The screens flickered with distorted, psychedelic visuals, echoing the energy of the festival and adding a surreal edge to Jess and Brooks’ gallery.

Their images carry all of it: the movement, the textures, the spaces that made their day unique.

Why Buena Vista Makes an Incredible Elopement Location

Yes, Jess and Brooks’ story proves it.

  • Who photographed elopements at Field of Vision festival?
That would be me (hehe), and I’ll be back next year.

  • What are the best elopement locations near Buena Vista?

Looking Ahead to Field of Vision 2026

I’ll be car camping at Field of Vision again next year, and I would love to photograph another love story amidst the music and mountains. Whether it’s an elopement in the soft morning light, a couples session in between sets, or portraits by the creek, I know Buena Vista will bring its magic once again.

Because at the end of the day, elopements like Jess and Brooks’ remind us that love is at home anywhere: on a mountaintop, in a living room, or in the middle of a festival filled with music and art.
